So Long, Superman – A Calming Musical Interlude #5

On the ol’ Pioneer LazerDisc jukebox at the pub I haunted back in ’94 or so, Interstate Love Song was a staple on the 3 tunes for 2 bucks deal.  And my introduction to Stone Temple Pilots, or Pone Stemple Tilots, as they sometimes were drunkenly referenced.  Many a Kahlua & milk or Jim Beam & cola or whatever horrific beverage I was on were downed and enjoyed with this as backing music…   Likewise, mirth aplenty is remembered in connection to Sour Girl.  Buffy, Sarah Michelle, scary rabbit costumes, the 90’s, whatever…     It all got a bit … Continue reading So Long, Superman – A Calming Musical Interlude #5

A Calming Musical Interlude #4

Don’t really need to say too much about this (but I probably will).  Everybody knows that RATM are one of the greatest anti-establishment bands that ever was… I never saw them in concert, although I probably missed (passed up) a couple of chances to do just that back in the last century.  This clip is from the Glastonbury Festival (UK) in 1994, and features Maynard James Keenan of Tool fame doing his spoken/screamed part of the song in the flesh.  Everyone looks fresh-faced and full of youth and passion. There’s also a cameo from a wind turbine behind the … Continue reading A Calming Musical Interlude #4

Trippin’ In Paradise

On this day in 1970, Jimi Hendrix died, at the age of 27. Trailblazer, inventor, interpreter, communicator, human beacon. An example of how to live. An example of how not to die. One of my favourite anecdotes about Jimi is that he would place 2 or 3 LSD blotters on his forehead under his headband and play his gigs in a state of ‘escalating tripping’ as his sweat transported the good acid into his dermis and beyond.  I don’t know if that’s actually true, but it’s a damn fine tale. And so castles made of sand, melt into the sea, … Continue reading Trippin’ In Paradise

A Calming Musical Interlude #3

I’ll write something original in this place one day soon, rather than allowing it to devolve into a destitute man’s version of YouTube… Anyway, here’s another band that everyone should listen to.  If only because I say it should be so. …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead are excellent.  Saw them live at The Corner a few years back; a really good show, and the dual drummers playing that tour were perfectly synchronistic on every beat.  Haven’t seen better in that respect. ‘Mistakes & Regrets‘ – yep, I know about that stuff, like most of us…  This song usually makes … Continue reading A Calming Musical Interlude #3

A Calming Musical Interlude #2

Wow, the internets of things tell me that I’ve been a very lazy web-logger.  Well, life is dark and full of demons; or whatever… Anyway, here’s a fantastic video clip with fantastic music by a fantastic band that everyone should be forced to watch/listen to, if they so choose. The Mars Volta.  What can I say?  Epic.  No better way to blow 10 minutes away that doesn’t involve removing your pants. Crank it.  Enjoy. Wick Burner Continue reading A Calming Musical Interlude #2
